Any engineers care to advise on my elevation drawing? No contour lines as they ask for two foot intervals and my lot is less than a two foot drop from edge to edge... Also look at the size of that garage two wide by two deep so much OPPO stuff will happen in this garage.

This is a plan, not an elevation...

Yes wrong term plan with elevation on it I guess. I made it look as much like the example the Building Dept gave me as possible except they have lines to show grade on 2ft change and my lot drops 1ft over 150 ft

Site plan, with topography. Usually you’d still show the single topo line wherever it crosses the property.

Agreed with Bman, this is definitely a plan.

In my line of work, elevations are for Rack layouts for where equipment gets placed, then a separate page is the wiring diagram. The plans are the overall view of the job site with the wire runs around the buildings, with IT head end, demarc or remote IT locations marked and referenced to the appropriate page for the wiring diagrams or rack elevations.

Cool I can add that really easily.

Our building dept likes these on a site plan;

SITE PLAN :

- Lot dimensions and adjoining public roads

- Physical features (i.e. creek, lake, embankment)

- Location of existing and proposed buildings (dimensions, setbacks)

- Location of domestic water source

- Location, size and number of parking spaces

- Location and dimension of access to public road

- Centerline of public road

- Site servicing

- Garbage bin location

- Easements, right-of-ways

- North arrow and scale

- Elevations at the corners of the property

Vs

ELEVATION PLANS :

- Building height
- Finished grades, including road elevation

- Exterior finishes

I thought the same thing when I first saw it.

how tall are the trees? go get your climbing gear. The only thing I’d add is a little circle where the trunk of the trees are.

Typically a site plan would also include proposed and existing finished floor elevations (FFE), lowest adjacent grades and maybe spot elevations nearby to ensure that stormwater will drain away from the structures.

It is also typical to show the adjacent public right-of-way (and name it) or the access easement.

Im a design engineer/network engineer for small/medium business networks and high end commercial or residential AV. I havent touched CAD much because my last shop had a CAD department for that busywork. I spec the equipment and test systems to ensure they function as intended.

I also have a bunch of VOIP certifications and am integrating phone systems into the mixes now.

Did I mention I work too much?

I got really excited you mentioned rack layout and thought you and I were in the same line of work. as me. I do high pile storage but it ends up being the same thing as you talked about minus the wiring. Page 1 floor plan, vicinity map, et al, Page 2 rack elevations.

Ah, yeah, all IT for me. Im hoping to do a bit more work in Visio because CAD is super complicated for what Im doing.

CAD would help if we provided sample images of wall mounted units and how high things mount. I can get an accurated enough drawing in Visio in a few minutes, and I have a wiring diagram template I found online that is good enough. I just need to merge a couple existing templates together so its easier to print and read.

Ive got this massive project going where Im mapping out the IT connections for several rooms in two adjacent buildings, but I just kept expanding the size of the canvas to add more equipment because its really just for my reference. Ill be telling people what to connect and where unless I can miraculously make an easier set of drawings in the next two weeks.

I like the R&D part of my job way more. Playing with fiber and VOIP and managing a zillion VLANs on the Wifi and LAN. I just have a love/hate relationship with SonicWalls. They work pretty well, but the interface is clunky. A super robust unit shouldnt have the same interface for the products lifetime. A brand new sonicwall has the same interface as one thats several years old.
